Terraria “Will Never Die” As Long As There is “One Last Final Update” – Lead Developer
Since its original release all the way back in 2011, Terraria has gained a reputation for being a game where the developer just won’t stop adding new things. Since then, the game has seen several updates, quite a few of them being referred to by developer Re-Logic as its “final update”.
On social media platform Bluesky, lead developer Andrew Spinks stated that the studio is now getting back to work on the game for its “final update” once again, and went on to say that the game will “never die”.
“We are back to work tomorrow and I’ve got one single mission: releasing the final update,” posted Spinks. “My game face is on.”
When asked by another Bluesky user about how many times Terraria has seen a “final update” released, Spinks went on to say: “Terraria will never die as long as there is one last final update.”
Terraria has seen quite a few additions since its original release, including new biomes, gear, and a host of new gameplay features, including boss fights. The next update, numbered at 1.4.5, was originally due for release in 2024. The studio, however, decided to push the update back to 2025 in order to prevent crunch.
It is worth noting that the studio hasn’t revealed too many details about what we can expect in the upcoming update. The studio has teased one of the new features of the update, however, with an animated gif showcasing that players won’t have to plant acorns manually by hand, and can simply throw acorns around to get automatically planted.
More recently, Re-Logic announced a collaboration with Pocketpair to bring Terraria-themed content to Palworld. As part of the collaboration, Palworld got its first hybrid ranged-melee weapon: the Meowmere. The weapon allows players to shoot bullets while also swinging the sword.
Terraria itself has been quite popular, with the studio revealing last year that the game had sold almost 59 million copies since its release in 2011.
