Several publications went hands-on with a new preview build of Capcom’s Monster Hunter Wilds, including fighting some never-before-seen monsters: Quematrice and Uth Duna. They debut in the title, with the former serving as a Brute Wyvern that deals Fire damage.
Though it can bite opponents, its tail is the main danger, spreading a “flammable substance” (as the PlayStation Blog describes) and afflicting Fireblight. Uth Duna is in the Scarlet Forest, acting as its Apex Predator. The Leviathan flows around, dealing Water damage and inflicting Waterblight.
Its body and flaps are reminiscent of Namielle, an Elder Dragon, and in the same vein, you must be careful when it slams down with its body. However, it also secretes a fluid all over its body to protect it, so Focus Mode is necessary to target weak spots. Olivia of the Expedition Team helps during this hunt, making it easier to perform surgical strikes.
Monster Hunter Wilds launches on February 28th, 2025, for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. Head here to learn more about how Equipment Skills like Focus and Critical Draw can now be found on weapons
