Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred follows the base game’s plot, specifically Neyrelle, as she travels to cleanse Mephisto’s soulstone of his presence. But how does she accomplish this? In the Vault of Light, as revealed through a new developer video. Check it out below.
Created by Akarat, the Vault of Light resides somewhere in Nahantu (which is why Neyrelle ventures to the region). It’s also where Akarat’s tomb resides, which could play a part in the story. The team also discussed the Spirit Realm, which has remained peaceful since Sanctuary’s creation and faces corruption at the hands of Mephisto.
That explains the Spiritborn joining the fight against the Lord of Hatred, with Aru, an elder, guiding the player. Though isolation is a central theme of the expansion, with Neyrelle going off on her own, it culminates in the characters being stronger together. Friends along the way, the real journey, and whatnot.
Interestingly, Blizzard also teased “pockets of Sanctuary that we haven’t been able to see before,” which carries the same tone as the rest of the world. Whether that refers to Nahantu or other areas remains to be seen, so stay tuned.
Launching on October 8th, Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred will be available for Xbox One, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. Head here for details on other story details, including The Burned Knights.
