Activision and Nintendo Are Still “Working On” Bringing Call of Duty to Switch

Activision recently unveiled its next Call of Duty game – Black Ops 7. However, interestingly, the list of platforms for the game was lacking the Nintendo Switch 2. According to IGN, the company has released a statement saying that it is still working with Nintendo to bring the franchise to the Switch. However, Activision doesn’t seem to have any solid timeline for this.

“We’re committed to getting the franchise on Switch,” said Activision in its statement. “Both teams are working on it. Will share details when ready.”

The lack of any Nintendo console in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7’s list of platforms is especially noteworthy since Microsoft had announced a 10-year deal it had signed with Nintendo back in 2022. At the time, the deal was signed in order to assuage the fears that worldwide regulatory bodies had over Microsoft’s attempts at acquiring Activision Blizzard.

“Microsoft has entered into a 10-year commitment to bring Call of Duty to Nintendo following the merger of Microsoft and Activision Blizzard King,” said Spencer, announcing the deal at the time. “Microsoft is committed to helping bring more games to more people – however they choose to play.”

The UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) had questioned the deal at the time, pointing out that Nintendo platforms have traditionally not had Call of Duty games, and that there were no indications that a Switch successor would be capable of running the modern generation of Call of Duty games on a technical level.

“Nintendo does not currently offer CoD, and we have seen no evidence to suggest that its consoles would be technically capable of running a version of CoD that is similar to those in Xbox and PlayStation in terms of quality of gameplay and content,” said the CMA at the time.

A few months later, Microsoft had announced another similar deal, this time around signed with Sony. It is worth noting that deals specifically had to do with the Call of Duty franchise, and didn’t necessarily mean that Microsoft would bring other Activision Blizzard titles to its competitors’ consoles.

Activision had taken to the stage during Xbox Games Showcase 2025 to close out the show with the announcement of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. The game was announced with a trailer that revealed that the game will take place in 2035, as well as the fact that David Mason will be returning as the player character.

The Call of Duty series has been the subject of some controversy in recent times thanks to the recent release of the season 4 update to Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. After the update went live, several players had noticed that various screens in the game’s multiplayer modes had included advertisements for some of the weapons bundles that were available for sale. These players noted that these ads were unacceptable, since Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is a full-priced game and needs a $60 buy in to play to begin with.

Activision has also recently announced the end of support for Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile.
