Following the reveal of Vex’s origins in a killer cinematic short for Borderlands 4, Gearbox Entertainment has a new video detailing her abilities. Being a Siren means Vex has access to Phase abilities, but in her case, that means a Necromancer-esque playstyle revolving around minions. Check out lead game designer Nick Thurston and test manager Matt Herrera, detailing everything.
Like other Vault Hunters, Vex has three skill trees revolving around three Action Skills: Phase Phamiliar, Incarnate, and Dead Ringer. The first focuses on a single minion, Trouble, who can teleport to enemies and gain critical hit chance against any part of enemies with “Keen Friends.” The second is Incarnate, which sees Vex sprouting wings and hurling Eldritch Blasts.
However, you can modify it with an Augment that turns the initial Phase Explosion into a Geistwave scaling off Ordnance Damage. You can also gain increased Lifesteal and Reload Speed if Vex is attuned to Kinetic damage. Finally, there’s Dead Ringer, which can summon Specters that deal gun damage or Reapers who taunt and slash foes up close.
With the Augment “Hellish Harvest,” you can make the Reapers attack three times in an area, restoring health in the process. Meanwhile, Specters can use “Wither” which deals status effect damage over time, increasing their damage taken for a period.
There are many choices, and that’s before optimizing the rest of your loadout. Borderlands 4 launches on September 12th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. Stay tuned for further cinematics and overview trailers for the other Vault Hunters.
