EA Sports FC 26 Gets New Trailer Outlining Improvements to Ultimate Team Mode
EA has released a new trailer for its upcoming football game EA Sports FC 26, this time around giving us a deep dive into its Ultimate Team mode. The trailer, clocking in at almost 6 minutes, covers a range of topics, from live events, to the revamp for rivals and champs, and even repeatable EVOs. Things are ultimately wrapped up by the trailer going into details about the new Competitive Gameplay mode. Check it out below.
Live Events, including modes like Gauntlets and League Tournaments, have been described as “an exciting expansion of FUT’s competitive structure”. These allow players more options when it comes to competing with others, and as a direct result, also end up offering more chances to earn rewards. The Rivals and Champs system is also getting revamped, as a result of which, Qualifiers have been removed. There is now also a second tier of Weekend League.
The tournament system revolves around offering players in EA Sports FC 26 a way to go into competitions in back-to-back high-stakes matches. While winners will advance in the tournaments, losers are sent back to the lobby, and there is a new matchmaking system that ensures that players will only ever face others that are in a similar position of their tournaments brackets. Rewards that can be earned in the tournaments are unique to the mode, with the game offering a few tiers of rewards to encourage players to dive back into a fresh tournament even if they lost the last one.
All of this is being powered by the new Competitive Gameplay mode, which has been described by the company as being the result of taking player feedback from previous titles into account. Competitive Gameplay mode will be the only way to play FUT matches online, and will focus on giving players quick, responsive gameplay while minimising the level of randomness that can arise from unique player quirks.
Earlier this month, EA had offered up quite a few details about the changes being made to the Clubs mode in EA Sports FC 26. Headlining the mode is the new Archetypes system, which allows players to specialise their in-game players, promoting more team play through synergistic abilities and passive boosts. The title will offer several different Archetypes across the four in-game positions, with each Archetype also offering up its own set of benefits, including signature playstyles.
Clubs will also be getting new Rush tournaments – a single-elimination knockout tournament system where wins allow progress up the brackets while losses cost a player one attempt at the tournament while also sending them back to the first round. Along with this, EA Sports FC 26 is also getting several improvements to the UI, including a fresh presentation for the Be-A-Goalkeeper mode with unique camera and audio treatments.
EA Sports FC 26 is coming to PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 on September 26. For more details about the game, check out our coverage of its deep dive trailer.
