Nintendo Switch Surpasses PS2 in Lifetime Sales in the US
The Nintendo Switch has looked locked on to overtake the PlayStation 2 as the bests-selling video game console of all time for a while now, and though it hasn’t quite done that just yet, it has overtaken Sony’s console in one specific region.
Circana analyst Mat Piscatella has revealed on BlueSky that the Switch has officially surpassed the PS2’s lifetime sales in the US. The PS2 stands at over 53 million units sold in the country. The Switch has now become the best-selling home console of all time in the region, though the Nintendo DS still ranks ahead of it in the overall hardware charts, with over 57 million units sold in the region.
As of September 30, the Nintendo Switch has sold 146.04 million units worldwide, while the PS2’s official lifetime global sales stand at 160 million units sold. With the Switch’s successor on the horizon, its sales are expected to continue slowing down, though presumably, it won’t be long before it overtakes Sony’s console as the bestselling console of all time worldwide.
