Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 Will Include THPS 4’s Unique Missions Through Pro Goals System
Developer Iron Galaxy has confirmed that not all of the content in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 will be available to players right from the get go. Rather, according to VGC, the studio has revealed that some of the content will only be accessible once players have completed a set number of objectives for a level.
The content in question largely revolves around some of the more unique objectives from Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4, which Iron Galaxy has said could not be put into Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4’s base missions because of the 2-minute time limit for every mission. These missions will instead be available as part of the remake’s Pro Goals system, which can only be accessed once a level’s 10 goals have been completed.
These goals were quite unique for Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater games, and were only really possible at the time because of THPS 4’s shift away from the franchise’s traditional (at the time) level-based format where players would have 2 minutes to complete objectives to a more open design. Since players had the freedom to roam around a level without any time restrictions in the game, they could freely pick up and try these missions, which could range from trying to do a specific trick at specific spots, to stranger objectives that focused more on exploration.
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 is slated for release on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 on July 11. Hyping up the launch, which at the time of publishing is just a month away, Activision released a launch trailer for the game over the weekend. The trailer showed off quite a few of the game’s levels, tricks, and playable skateboarders, as well as confirming that some of the customisation options will allow players to don the armour of the Doom Slayer from id Software’s DOOM series.
As for its roster of playable skateboarders, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 will include a mix of legends of the sport as well as newer skateboarders. Alongside the eponymous Tony Hawk, the game will also feature Bam Margera as one of the members of its roster. Margera was confirmed through a trailer released back in May, where the skateboarding legend spoke about how much he used to love playing the Tony Hawk’s games.
“In most sports games are just hitting a ball back and forth, until the ball gets past you,” he said. “This game, you can grind the house, you can grind up that pole, you can go down a handrail. You can do endless amounts of things. And everybody, from grandpa to a young kid can love this game.”
“I’m going to have to let myself play video games again because this one will be well worth it. If I start missing flights again, I know where to put it.”
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 will also feature Margielyn Didal as one of its playable characters, as confirmed by a trailer from back in March.
