A new social media post by known Ubisoft leaker RogueTx reveals more details about the in-development Far Cry 7. The leaker has described the title as a “high-stakes PvEvP” extraction game where players have to scavenge for loot and survive the harsh maps and other players before they extract. The primary antagonists in the game are a sinister cult known only as the Sons of Truth.
The core gameplay loop is also slated to include a time limit – which was leaked earlier. However, in their latest leak, RogueTx has noted that the time limit has gone up to 72 hours. The main story will seemingly revolve around rescuing six family members. In terms of gameplay, Far Cry 7 will include safe houses where players can change and maintain their gear, with the latter being especially important since weapons will have durability. The map itself is also going to have its own challenges, which include grizzly bears, wolves, foxes, and deer.
The time for the story of Far Cry 7 first came to light when an audio clip from the game surfaced back in May. A core motif throughout the clip, which featured synth-styled music with heavy beats, was a constant ticking, similar to that of a clock. The same RogueTx also shared a picture of what appeared to be key art from the upcoming shooter, showing off its main setting, which will seemingly be in Alaska.
Another report has indicated that the development of Far Cry 7 has been a troubled one. Back in April, Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson went as far as to describe it as “going through hell and back right now”.
Ubisoft itself has been largely silent about the project, aside from CEO Yves Guillemot noting that the Far Cry franchise currently has “two very promising projects” in development. While the more recent rumors seem to indicate that it is the title being developed under the codename of Maverick, thanks to its Alaskan setting and extraction shooter mechanics, another project, codenamed Blackbird, will seemingly take a more story-centric approach.
Things have been quiet when it comes to the Far Cry series since the 2021 release of Far Cry 6. The title, released on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, revolves around the island of Yara in the Caribbean, which is under the rule of the dictator Antón Castillo, who was played by Giancarlo Esposito. Players take on the role of guerrilla fighter Dani Rojas, who, despite initially wanting to escape from the island, finds themselves trapped there, working with other revolutionaries to depose Castillo.
Along with the typical sandbox-style gameplay you would expect from the Far Cry franchise, Far Cry 6 also introduced some new features, including animal companions and a special class of weapons dubbed Resolver Weapons, which gave players more ways to deal with different scenarios. The shooter also introduced a “Rank” system, providing a loose approximation of the challenge level in various parts of the game’s map when compared to the player’s own rank.
