Scopely is Making a New Marvel Co-Op Gacha Action Game for Android, iOS – Rumor

Marvel Rivals - Invisible Woman

Marvel might be working on a new co-op-focused game, this time targeting Android and iOS. A new report indicates that the company is working with mobile game developer Scopely – known for titles like Marvel Strike Force and Star Trek Fleet Command – to make a new Marvel-based mobile game with action gameplay, co-op modes, and gacha systems. According to industry insider Miller Ross, this game is being developed under the name Project Comet, and as of earlier this month, was planned to get a closed test in June.

However, the end of June is approaching, and there have been no details about Project Comet until more recently, when another known leaker, MultiverSusie, posted a few assets of what appears to be an early build of the game. While most of the posts by MultiverSusie include concept art and 3D models from the game, a video gives us a look at in-game UI.

The video features a playable version of X-Men character Juggernaut, along with some UI elements that include on-screen controls for movement, jumping, attacking, and a variety of special abilities. We don’t get a look at what the title’s levels will look like, however, since the clip seems to be from a greybox prototype, lacking any of the environmental assets from Project Comet.

The assets posted by MultiverSusie also indicate that the character design in Project Comet might be taking a cue from Marvel Rivals.

It is worth noting that neither Marvel nor Scopely has made any official announcement regarding Project Comet. As such, few details about the title are available. Even the fact that it might be a mobile game comes down to one of the leaks being a video with on-screen controls, and Scopely’s history of releasing games only on Android and iOS. There is, however, potential for Project Comet to also make its way to PC and consoles, since other gacha games like Genshin Impact and Zenless Zone Zero have enjoyed success there as well.

In the meantime, Scopely is also rumored to be working on a new project with CD Projekt. Believed to be a new game in The Witcher’s universe, the title is seemingly being developed for PC, iOS, and Android, and will focus on co-op gameplay.

The unnamed project will reportedly take place in the year 1230; since Geralt would still be a young Witcher, the setting is ripe for new player-created Witchers coming in and handling some of the bigger monster infestations. The core gameplay will revolve around players taking on contracts to hunt down monsters.

The combat in this project is rumored to be quite extensive, giving players plenty of choices between the various Witcher schools, as well as the ability to brew potions for combat benefits, and even use Signs like Igni in combat encounters.

Scopely has been working quite hard to grow its business since its acquisition of Niantic’s game development business last year, essentially becoming the owner of Pokémon Go. At the time, the game’s senior product director Michael Steranka said that no sweeping changes are coming, and that Scopely will largely leave it alone so that it doesn’t change what made it a huge success to begin with.
