While developer Game Science recently kicked off pre-orders for the Deluxe and Collector’s Editions of upcoming action adventure title Black Myth: Wukong, the studio has now revealed in an FAQ on its official website that the physical releases of the game will not include discs.
Rather than discs, players who buy the physical release of Black Myth: Wukong will instead find an activation code for the Digital Deluxe Edition of the game.
“Due to the production of the physical edition involving a significant amount of necessary manual processes and our mutual commitment to quality, we regret that we cannot guarantee immediate delivery of all physical editions right after the release,” wrote the studio in an FAQ about the game’s physical release and pre-orders. “Both physical editions come with an activation code for the Digital Deluxe Edition of Black Myth: Wukong.”
The studio cites inexperience with handing logistics at a global level as one of the reasons for not including discs in the physical release of Black Myth: Wukong.
“It is the first time for Game Science to release a console game globally, and we are currently facing limitations in offline resources required for the import, export, transportation, distribution, and sales of physical discs,” wrote the studio. “These factors have made it difficult for us to sell physical discs simultaneously with the official release of the game.”
“Our publishing team is actively working on resolving these issues and exploring options to offer physical discs.”
As for the pricing of the physical releases, the studio revealed earlier that the Deluxe Edition is priced at $169, and the Collector’s Edition is priced at $399. Both physical editions come with a host of goodies, including a SteelCase, and in the case of the Collector’s Edition, a Confront Destiny figure of the game’s protagonist, among other things.
Black Myth: Wukong is slated for release on August 20, and will be coming to PC and PS5. The game is also set for an Xbox Series X/S release, which has been delayed, with the studio stating it needs more time for optimisation.
